Final year project Smart-O-Meter is an intelligent meter data management system (IMDMS) which aims to upgrade existing manual electricity meter reading. Smart-O-Meter collects the data from GSM enabled digital meters after every passing hour. Consumers and Admin can log in to their web portal or install Android phone application to setup up their profiles, reminders, and pay their electricity bills via credit cards. Also, consumers are provided with the live chat facility with customer care representative in case of any queries or complaints. Admin can manage and inform about load shedding schedules. The power outages will be detected and restored. The system will also predict the demand and usage at different area hierarchy and let the administration know there the massive consumption of electricity is required.

Up till now, electrical utilities use the manual reading recording and bill generation, which is both costly and fallible. This system creates problems for consumers and electrical power administration alike. The bills charged inaccurately and standing in queues in banks to pay the bills causes inconvenience for customers. On the other hand, electrical power administration is not aware in real-time with the needs of electricity area-wise, so they can plan for future effectively and decrease their costs for electricity distribution which will ultimately reflect on consumer’s bills with subsidized rates.

There is a need for a system that not only caters the above the problems mentioned earlier but also let electrical providers gain the trust of the consumer by implementing transparent, efficient, and useful. Smart O Meter will be sued by the consumer to effectively decrease their energy usage, hence decreasing their electric bills. Consumers are also notified about load shedding in a timely manner. They will be provided ease as soon as possible when an outage occurs, which not only brings peace in users life but increase their trust on the utilities too. Government, on the other hand, will use the results of the system.

Smart o meter will provide the utilities with demand analysis electricity and usage prediction to a country with energy shortage issues. This will help utilities in distributing power more accurately. Therefore, implementing this system will bring only benefits to every stakeholder.
